How to Make the Perfect Espresso with a Moka Pot
Come with me on a trip! Don’t worry...we won’t go far. Not too far at all! Together we will venture off to Italy to stay in a beautiful little house somewhere in the country. We will get cozied up by a woodfire oven, where not only pizza will be cooking 24/7, but we will wake up to that sweet sweet sound of a Moka pot’s whistle that will sing, ‘Come here friend...your coffee is ready’. We will pour ourselves a rich and delicious serving espresso and sit on the mountainside and talk about how amazing our future together will be, but also recognize that at times it may get difficult...BUT NOT TO WORRY! I will be here for you with a robust cup of beautiful espresso in my hands❤️
This blog post is going to cover 1 thing and 1 thing only. We are going to talk about the method of extracting a sexy cup of espresso utilizing the Moka Pot. Don’t be intimidated by the illuminating shine reflected off its polygonal sides. It is a humble brewing method with a deep historical basis. Without further adieu my friends...let’s dive into the wonderful world of espresso, as extracted utilizing the Moka Pot.
How to Make Espresso with a Moka Pot?
As with most other brewing methods, we are going to break up this recipe into 4 and a half EPIC parts.
(optional step 4.5: Staring down your loved ones as they add cream and 2 splendas to your hard work. Don’t worry...we don’t judge.)
and so let’s gather our materials...
Materials Needed to Brew Espresso with a Moka Pot
I know that when most people say a heading they assume a lot of information is going to be thrown at their faces. But not today friends! That’s because, all you need to make espresso with a Moka Pot:
- A Stovetop
- Coffee beans
- A damp towel
- A Moka Pot
- A coffee grinder (ignore if you are a ground coffee purchaser)
With that out of the way! Let’s jump into the actual recipe☺️
Brewing Espresso with a Moka Pot
- Grind out roughly 20-22 grams of your favourite espresso as finely as you would for...wait for it...a shot of espresso!
- Weigh out your espresso to ensure that you in fact have 20-22 grams of espresso!
- Put that ground espresso in the Moka Pot Basket.
- Level off the espresso lightly with your finger.
- Fill your Moka Pot with water. Ensure you fill the lower chamber with cold water up to right below the valve.
- Insert the filter basket into the brewer bottom.
- Prepare the rest of the Moka pot, by tightening its base to the chamber. You don’t need a wrench or biceps the size of my right quadricep to do this. Wrist tight my friends!
- Heat the Moka pot until the water boils and the coffee begins coming out of the center post. You will hear some gurgling sounds during this process but that’s nothing to worry about. Be patient as this could take a few minutes.
- You know it’s done when you hear a hissing sound.
- Let the coffee settle for a minute, pour out in your finest little espresso cups and best of all…
